PHILADELPHIA – The Hollywood Reporter says Oprah Winfrey and her producers worked for months with Philadelphia Eagles’ quarterback Michael Vick on his planned appearance on her show.
Vick cancelled the taping on Tuesday, which was scheduled for February 22.
A source told Fox 29 News on Wednesday that the decision was made at the Philadelphia Eagles’ request.
The Eagles contacted Fox 29 News on Thursday morning to dispute the report, denying that they pressured Vick to cancel the interview.
Winfrey herself told the Reporter that she had been “working for months” on the Vick interview, and already pre-taped segments with Vick.
Winfrey will air an interview with David Arquette instead of Michael Vick on Feb. 24.
Winfrey told THR Thursday that she found out Vick had canceled via an email from her executive producer, Sheri Salata.
“He said personal reasons. We’re not going to push it,” Winfrey said, adding that her staff “had been working behind the scenes for months” on the interview.
“We did a field trip with him. We had been shooting with Michael Vick. And the fact that he pulled out and all his people…” Winfrey said. “We move on.”
Vick was scheduled to tape an extended interview with Winfrey to air on February 24. But Vick issued a statement on Wednesday that he would not appear on Winfrey’s show.
The Eagles placed the franchise tag on Vick on Tuesday, meaning he will get an estimated payday between $16 million and $20 million next season in a one-year deal with the Eagles.

The Philadelphia Eagles have placed the franchise tag on Pro Bowl quarterback Michael Vick.
Vick led the Eagles to a 10-6 record and the NFC East title after replacing an injured Kevin Kolb in Week 1. Despite missing three games with an injury, Vick had his best season.
He set career highs in yards passing (3,018), touchdowns passing (21), touchdowns rushing (nine), completion percentage (62.6) and passer rating (100.2).
By applying the franchise tag, a team must pay a player the average of the top five salaries at his position.
Vick was voted The Associated Press Comeback Player of the Year after missing two seasons while serving a jail sentence and playing sparingly in 2009.
The Eagles also placed the transition tag on Pro Bowl kicker David Akers.
“Michael Vick and David Akers were two of our most valuable players last year,” coach Andy Reid said. “They were well deserving of their Pro Bowl berths and we’re happy to take this step to ensure that they’ll be back in Philadelphia next season.”
Not much else going on in the NFL world today.

The Philadelphia Eagles placed their franchise tag on quarterback Michael Vick on Tuesday, the team announced.

ESPN NFL Insider John Clayton says franchising QB Michael Vick allows the Eagles to take offers on QB Kevin Kolb. Plus, Clayton says he’s no longer optimistic about a new CBA before the March deadline.

In addition, the Eagles said they have placed their transition tag on kicker David Akers.
Under rules of the soon-to-expire collective bargaining agreement, franchise tags pay players the average of the top five players at that position. Transition tags pay players the average of the top 10 at the position, plus it gives teams the ability to match any offer given to the designated player in free agency.
It is uncertain if franchise and transition tags will be part of the next CBA.
“Michael Vick and David Akers were two of our most valuable players last year,” coach Andy Reid said in a statement announcing the moves. “They were well deserving of their Pro Bowl berths and we’re happy to take this step to ensure that they’ll be back in Philadelphia next season.”
ESPN.com reported last month that the Eagles would franchise Vick. If franchise tags are upheld, the move will tie Vick to Philadelphia for the 2011 season and put the Eagles in a better position to potentially trade backup Kevin Kolb, who wants to be a starter elsewhere next season.
Mosley: What About Kolb?
Now that the Eagles have tagged Michael Vick, what about backup QB Kevin Kolb? The expiring CBA makes a trade unlikely, ESPN.com’s Matt Mosley writes. Blog
Logan Mankins received the New England Patriots’ franchise tag on Monday. No players are expected to sign franchise tags while the NFLPA challenges their validity.
Vick made $5.25 million in 2010 but would make an estimated $20 million — the average salary of the five highest-paid quarterbacks in the league — as the Eagles’ franchise player.
Vick was selected to start the Pro Bowl last month, his fourth trip to Hawaii in eight seasons. He is coming off a season of career highs in passing yards (3,018), passing touchdowns (21), rushing touchdowns (9), completion percentage (62.6) and passer rating (100.2). The Eagles (10-7) were 8-3 in games Vick started and finished.
Vick was voted The Associated Press Comeback Player of the Year after missing two seasons while serving a prison sentence for his role in a dogfighting ring, and he played only sparingly in 2009.

President Obama praised Philadelphia Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie for giving Michael Vick a second chance but Tucker Carlson thinks otherwise. This is according to International Sports News, December 29, 2010.
Who is Michael Vick?
Michael Vick is the Philadelphia Eagles’ great quarterback who served an 18-month federal sentence for dogfighting. Michael Vick came back and was given a second chance to play in the NFL by Philadelphia Eagles’ owner Jeffrey Lurie.
President Obama heard about this and had praised Lurie. This caught the attention of Tucker Carlson.
Who is Tucker Carlson?
Tucker Carlson is a Fox News commentator who thinks that Michael Vick should have been executed for running a dogfighting ring for 5 years. He was a guest host at the Sean Hannity’s Show when he said this.
Several quarters reacted to Carlson’s comments, saying that people are inherently good and that people like Michael Vick can be given a second chance.  The Center of Employment Opportunities stated that this is the main reason why people who have history of incarceration find it difficult to find jobs and turn a new leaf, because most people would not give them a second chance.
This is the video of Tucker Carlson’s comments.
In the meantime, the Philadelphia Eagles have welcomed Michael Vick who had a sensational performance in the last game with the Minnesota Vikings, although the Vikings won 24-14. He sustains a leg injury though, that might not allow him to play against the Dallas Cowboys in the next game.

President Obama praised the owner of the Philadelphia Eagles for giving Michael Vick a second chance, a media report says. For Michael Vick, the comments add to a charmed season.
What has been a fairy tale year for Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick has now apparently received a presidential seal of approval.
In a National Football League season that has repeatedly intrigued with the unexpected, perhaps nothing has been so astonishing as Vick’s rehabilitation both as a person and a football player.
He is on the short list of most valuable player candidates, and he has been equally lauded for what is by all reports earnest contrition for his part in running an illegal dog-fighting ring.
Now, Vick has received indirect praise from President Obama. In his column on Sports Illustrated’s website Monday, Peter King reports that Mr. Obama called Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie to thank the team for giving Vick a chance.
Obama was “passionate about it,” Mr. Lurie told Mr. King, adding that the president said “it’s never a level playing field for prisoners when they get out of jail. And he was happy that we did something on such a national stage that showed our faith in giving someone a second chance after such a major downfall.”
Vick served 18 months in federal prison, and there was only tepid interest among NFL teams when he was released before last season. When the Eagles signed him in 2009, it was to backup starting quarterback Donovan McNabb, who vowed to mentor Vick.
Even this year, when McNabb left for Washington, promising youngster Kevin Kolb was named the Eagles’ starting quarterback, but Vick did not complain. To the contrary, he and Kolb reportedly struck up a cordial friendship, and all Vick’s comments about the situation were unequivocal in their support for Kolb.
It was not until Kolb was injured early in the season that Vick got his chance, and his performances have turned the Eagles from a team scrapping to make the playoffs into a legitimate threat to reach the Super Bowl.
Vick credits his ordeal with making him a better player. Arguably the best running quarterback in the history of the NFL, Vick has now added patience and better passing to his repertoire, making him a complete pro quarterback for the first time in his career.
Obama’s comments come at a time when Vick is stressing the sincerity of his reformation. He recently said he would like to own a dog. He is currently prohibited from owning a dog, given that dogs in his fighting ring were maimed and killed.
Gotta run!.

What’s different about the 2010 Philadelphia Eagles, who are 7-3, and the ’09 Eagles, who went 11-5? Well, obviously, Michael Vick is the quarterback instead of Donovan McNabb. This week, guard Todd Herremans was asked to compare the two.
That’s all the news for today.
